Before COVID-19 we announced that the number of acute food insecure people for 2019 was 135 million people. Now that number has gone to 265 million people.
The UN World Food Programme predicts that the COVID-19 pandemic will push an additional 130 million people to the brink of starvation. Food assistance offers a lifeline to vulnerable communities and boosting social protection systems will be vital to safeguarding communities at risk of slipping into sever hunger in 2020.
